Brazil and the other countries in the world need to make the environment and development part of the same equation and not persist in thinking that one is in opposition to the other. Because there won’t be any development if we don’t resolve the serious environmental problems that the world is facing. The planet is already in the red in terms of its capacity to regenerate, according to recent studies, by 30 per cent. If we are unable to respond to this, evidently we are condemning ourselves. So Brazil needs to understand that there is still time to move from an unsustainable model to a sustainable model. There is no example in the world to be followed. There will only be those who are inclined to lead by example. And what Brazil needs to do, with the conditions that it has, is to lead by example.
